The ACP advantage

The ACP advantage

Philips Zoom is the only professional take-home whitening system with ACP (amorphous calcium phosphate). As this unique formula whitens, it also: delivers enamel protection, reduces sensitivity and helps improve luster. Whitening with ACP means stronger teeth, greater comfort and better results for your patients.

Hydrogen vs. carbamide peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide are the two most common ingredients used to whiten teeth. Hydrogen peroxide is highly potent for a short period of time, and best for patients who need short wear time. Carbamide peroxide is hydrogen peroxide mixed with urea, an ingredient that extends the effectiveness of peroxide over a longer period of time. These formulas are best for patients who prefer to wear their trays overnight.

Whitening FAQs

How does the Zoom Ultimate In-Office System work?

The Zoom! light-activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching any colored substance while keeping the structure of the tooth unchanged. The Zoom! light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth which accelerates the whitening process. The Zoom Ultimate system also includes the Take Home System to allow patients to continue the whitening process for additional results and to maintain their whiter smile.

Is the Zoom In-office procedure painful?

Generally no. During the procedure, patients can actually watch television or listen to music. Many fall asleep. However, some people do experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold either during or after treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after interruption or completion of the treatment.

How long is the procedure?

The entire procedure takes about one and a half hours. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by 4- 15 minute whitening sessions. A five-minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure (we recommend a cleaning prior to the actual Zoom Whitening session).

The Take Home Procedure

At the first appointment, one of staff will make impressions of your teeth to fabricate whitening trays for you. The trays are custom made for your mouth and are lightweight so that they can be worn comfortably while you are awake or sleeping. The trays are so thin that you should even be able to talk and work while wearing them. Along with the trays, you’ll receive the whitening kit and instructions on how to use it.
Depending on the system you choose you will need to wear your trays between one hour per evening or from four to six hours a day, usually at night. Generally it will take seven to ten days for satisfactory results.

How Long Does Whitening Last?

Lightness should last from one to five years, depending on your personal habits such as smoking and drinking coffee and tea. At this point you may choose to get a touch up kit and whiten your teeth for a night or two. This is very inexpensive because you can still use the same whitening trays. By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. We recommend flossing, brushing twice daily with Zoom Whitening Toothpaste, and touch-ups with Zoom take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available through our office.

What Are Realistic Expectations?

No one can really predict how much lighter your teeth will become. Every case is different. Typically, there is a two to four shade or more improvement as seen on a dentist’s shade guide. The success rate depends upon the type of stain involved and your compliance. Whitening does not lighten artificial materials such as resins, or porcelains so existing restorations on your front teeth may have to be replaced. We will inform you about your situation before we begin the whitening process so you don’ t get any surprises.

Is It Safe? Any Side Effects?

Many studies have proven bleaching to be safe and effective. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. The American Dental Association has granted its seal of approval to our whitening products. Some patients may experience slight gum irritation or tooth sensitivity, which will resolve when the treatment ends. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom is not recommended for children under 13 years of age or for pregnant or lactating women. Whitening is a proven safe, effective way to give your smile that brightness it may be lacking. All of our staff have had it done and are able to answer any questions you may have.

Who may benefit from tooth whitening?

Just about anyone can benefit from tooth whitening. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Our experienced staff can determine if you are a candidate for this procedure, including a shade assessment.

Is tooth whitening popular?

Absolutely! It is the most common dental cosmetic procedure. A bright, beautiful smile can make a big difference. The Zoom! Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.
